Following Up on A Promise

This post is for my Jenny, Eric, and Amy, the people who still read my blog after 11 months of inactivity.
Ahhhhh so much has happened in the last year. It possibly could be the longest blog post of my whole blogging career.
I loved my summer of 2012. It was warm and beautiful and super duper fun fun fun. I started eighth grade in the fall. Whew, it has been quite the adventure. My eighth grade year seems kind of like a roller coaster in retrospect...  WAY too many ups and downs to count.
Quick detour, to my favorite part of history class. We were doing a simulation of the Civil War, and the class was split into Northern and Southern regiments.  On the first day of the simulation, my teacher told me that I needed to stay after class. Now, there is something you must understand about my history teacher. He can be funny sometimes, but he is definitely a very unpleasant person when he is angry.  I had been very careful during the first two trimesters to NOT get on his bad side, even though I could have been very easily. I was a model student in his class, doing my work quietly, and not talking to my neighbors, ever. So, naturally, when he asked me to stay after class, I was terrified. I wracked my brain trying to think of something that I had done wrong. Why would he want to keep me? After class, I stayed in his classroom. He gave me a packet about Civil War spies and informed me that for the next three months, I would be a spy for the Confederacy. I would be allowed to do ANYTHING in my power to lose my Northern regimen points, including skipping out on homework, mouthing off to him, talking during class, or virtually whatever I wanted to. For the next three months, I had the time of my life. I would get in very loud, very lengthy, very point-losing arguments with him. I never did my homework. I even accused him of being a Confederate at heart and favoring the South, at which the class laughed uproariously.  They were the golden days of history class. Every thought and word that I had kept bottled up for six excruciating months now spilled forth in a glorious fountain of brilliant spying.  I had so much fun. My totals were as follows.... in the end, the North won the war with 6,500 points, the South barely losing with 6,488. If I had not been on the Northern side as a spy, the North would have had 2,500 more points than it ended up with. I was really quite proud of those numbers. One week ago, I was forced to admit my high treason to the class. Most of them thought it was one of the best things ever. One kid even said "Lacey, I was kind of hoping that this was the new you. I was hoping that the mouthy, saucy, not-doing-homework Lacey was the new Lacey." When he put the final totals up, I couldn't help but make one final remark. "Mr. Owens, could you go all Dumbledore on this joint and award some last minute points to your favorite side?" This got a few giggles, and even Mr. Owens thought it was funny. Alas, no points were awarded and our class won the award for closest simulation in the history of Mr. Owens's history class.
The best part of my year was the trip to Disneyland. We had a great time. Between petting penguins at Seaworld and riding the roller coaster eight times in a row, it was a great trip. It was the best family time a girl can ask for.
Last week I was elected Freshmen Class President for the class of 2017. I get to take Student Leadership next year and be in student government for the fourth year in a row.  I hope to continue my student council streak all the way up to Student Body President. Go big or go home :).
I was in yearbook this year, and I helped create one of the most awesome yearbooks you will ever see. The whole yearbook class is really really proud of it and we had so much fun making it together.  Yearbook was a challenging class, and I loved every minute of it. I even made my own personal, 10 page yearbook. I will post pictures of it in. It took me a whole lot of time and is probably one of my favorite school projects ever. It was a really amazing experience for me.
I made so many new friends and grew a lot this year. Not in height (I'm still 5'3) but in all other aspects. I got my braces on just before Thanksgiving, and I turned fourteen.  My hair is growing really long which makes me oh-so-happy.
This summer I am so stoked for July. I get to go to EFY! No one knows the extent of my excitement here...I am so happy! Cute Mormon boys at BYU, super delicious food(from what Gabe tells me), great weather, and tons of spiritual-ness...who could want more out of life? I also get to go to Martin's Cove for the Pioneer trek, and it is going to be a great experience for me.
I love you all!
Till next time,
Lace
